Sociology 101 (Prof Charles Trevillion, Esq.): Journals, Periodicals, and Your Library's Databases

What is academic research?

Articles & Databases

Begin the scan by doing a query of the reference databases that match the focus on your research assignment or task. You might begin the search by querying online using Google,  Google Scholar or Wikipedia

Advantages/Disadvantages: Search engines such as Google or wikis such as Wikipedia, provide a broad range of materials associated to keyword searches.  You'll find lots of information... you then need to evaluate the quality of information found.  Again you Google search is likely to find zillions of information sources, but are those sources that you can depend on as "reliable" "valid" and "credible" sources of information?

Now, let's take a look at journals, newspapers, and other subscription information sources accessible and available through databases at your BHCC library.
